A study has shown that a product made from cannabis can help reduce the discomfort caused by menstrual cramps in women. This product is a high-CBD vaginal suppository.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a substance found in cannabis plants. The study involved 307 women, some of whom used this product while others continued with their usual treatments. The women who used the product reported a significant reduction in menstrual pain and a decrease in the need for pain medications.
The researchers said this is the first study to assess the impact of a "real-world," commercially-available, high-CBD suppository on menstrual-related pain and discomfort. They concluded that these suppositories could alleviate a range of menstrual-related symptoms, enhance daily functioning and decrease reliance on analgesics.
However, the researchers called for more studies to confirm the efficacy of cannabinoid-based therapies for menstrual pain.
